I will make it as simple as I can.
First of all, forget about complex stuff.
- You don’t beed a blog
- You don’t need years to build an audience
- And… you don’t need money.
(But seriously… you actually don’t need money. I am not one of these guys that tell you “no money, just $300 to start”. No, literally $0)
So, what do you actually need afterall?
ONE SKILL
ONE OFFER
TRAFFIC
Put all that in a pot and you have freelancing.
No,no… not Upwork and these other content mills. You will do it right if you want to make decent money.
Let me break this down:
1) One Skill
I can’t really help you with that. You have to figure out where you’re good at.
But wait… you may be good at whistling, yet no one would hire you. So, I will give you two options.
- Copywriting
- Coding
I’ve come to realize that most people who are good at #2 don’t even think about copywriting.
(Copywriting = writing ads, words that sell etc)
So I will talk how to be an effective copywriter in 1 month.
- Pick “Ca$hvertisement” and “The Boron Letters” and read them twice.
I told you you don’t need ANY money. That’s still the case *wink wink*
- Handwrite 12 famous sales letters
(Go to swiped[dot]co and find ads like “Why men crakc”, “ Lazy man’s way to riches” etc… and it’s .CO not .COM)
- Now start writing copy for imaginery products or services (write 1000 words EVERY DAY)
Done. You went from a scribbler to a decent word wielder.
(You’re not a master yet… you’re actually pretty bad but in terms of competition you’ve done more than the average copywriter does. Oh, don’t forget to join the Cult of Copywriting for more information, it’s FREE)
2) One Offer
You need to niche down.
After your first “red-shirt” month, you’ll have a general idea where you’re good at. Short copy, long form sales letters, direct respose etc.
So, it’s time to pick ONE offer. What it is that you do? Do you write direct response emails for ecom stores? Blog posts in the law niche?
You need to be precise. This is why people will hire you.
Your title should look something like this:
Direct response facebook ad copywriter for apparel
(Yeah, THAT specific)
3) Traffic
This is where most people screw up.
You can do two things:
- Write content like a mad-man to promote yourself
- Cold emails
Option #2 is where you can make MORE money FASTER.
But it’s tedious and hard. But simple:
- You identify your ideal client based on your niche
- You find this client and learn everything you can about them
- You send him a personalized email offering your ONE OFFER
You do this proccess x100. Meaning you send out 100 cold emails per month.
It’s DAT SIMPLE YO.
